A day out in Greytown - DIY
So to do this fabulous Greytown tour yourself...
Take a beautiful train ride through the Rimutaka ranges and out into the expanse of the Wairarapa valley. You can buy your ticket at the Wellington Railway Station (same day pass to Woodside only costs $22). The Wairarapa train departs at 9.55am and pulls into Woodside Station at 11.00am. From here climb aboard the waiting coach for the five minute drive into Greytown - just $2.
Hop off along Greytown's Main Street and enjoy a coffee at one of the fantastic cafes or dive straight into the boutiques. Enjoy lunch at Bar Salute, Main Street Deli, Greytown Hotel, 2 Short Whites, The White Swan or La Pancetta and head down the southern end of town to Schoc Chocolates - here they make over 85 flavours of gorgeous chocolate in a 'sweet' wee cottage. From lime & chilli to tangerine, pepper and porcini you're bound to find something you fall in love with.
There's plenty of gorgeous Wairarapa wines - and you can indulge guilt free seeing as you're not driving!
Catch the bus from Main Street back to Woodside Station in time for the return train to Wellington at 4.50pm having you back in the city at 6.25pm.
Better yet you can enjoy a full day, guided tour with Rebekah and Leo from Rimutaka Shuttles that includes a number of exclusive extras. Find out more here.
