Yarns in Barns

Festival director David Hedley

Yarns in Barns biennial literary festival bringing together some of New Zealand's best-loved authors to celebrate books and storytelling with a country twist!

Yarns in Barns Wairarapa Festival of Reading will be held over 10 days, from 1 - 10 June 2018.

This wonderful Wairarapa event is run as a non-profit event by Hedleys Booksellers, Fraser Books publishers and the Wairarapa Library Service.

Up to 14 events are held in various locations Wairarapa-wide, from a yarn in an iconic woolshed, to poetry at Gladstone Vineyard (with Bill Manhire and Glenn Colquhoun), literary gatherings at Hedleys Bookshop, Masterton Library, Aratoi and the Carterton Courthouse, among others.

A very popular feature is the great debate, this year held at the Carterton Events Centre. Debaters including Tom Scott, Bernard Beckett, C.K. Stead and Michele A'Court, will be arguing the topic “Women write a more convincing love story than do men”.

Reality TV star and lifestyle blogger Matilda Rice teams up with her friend, weightloss sensation Simone Anderson, for an event and stand-up comedian, writer and newspaper columnist Michele A'Court will discuss her new book, How We Met.  Other guests to be announced - watch for more details.
