Things to do close to Featherston

Cycling in the Wairarapa begins in Featherston with the Remutaka Cycle Trail, a ‘Great Ride’ on the NZ Cycle Trail; a fantastic loop to and from Wellington though the Remutaka ranges.

Featherston is the gateway to Lake Wairarapa and beyond. Ocean Beach, an hours’ drive from here is a prime spot for fishing! Stony and isolated, the drive out here is beautiful taking you alongside the shores of Lake Wairarapa and finally ending at the world renowned Wharekauhau Lodge.

Just 90 minutes to Cape PalliserPutangarua Pinnacles, Ngawi and the Cape Palliser Lighthouse make Featherston a great base for travel out this way. These beaches are great for fishing, diving and surfing, as well as home to the Cape Palliser Lighthouse and the largest fur seal colony in the North Island.
